Animal hospital operator of more than 1000 small animal facilities, VCA Animal Hospitals, shared its impact in its 3rd annual report, "Caring and Carrying On." The report focused on three areas: support of its staff, support of communities, and innovative veterinary care.
Investments in technology like stereotactic radiation therapy devices have improved care for pets in need of invasive surgery and potentially reducing costs. In addition, VCA hospitals demonstrated their innovative spirit by shifting to contactless pet care appointments that maintained quality care while reducing the risk of the spread of COVID-19.
Regarding support of its associates and communities, VCA spearheaded several programs and initiatives. For example, in response to COVID-19, VCA and its charitable arm, VCA Charities, offered pet food, raised $1 million in financial assistance, offered no-cost veterinary services, and supported 150,000 animals through animal welfare programs. For its associates, VCA launched support programs in mental health and finances and the "Better Together Fund" which helped those affected by the pandemic. In addition, initiatives in equity and diversity were also launched.
"At VCA, we are committed to taking care of the future of veterinary medicine," said Todd Lavender, DVM, president of VCA Animal Hospitals and Petcare Services. "Despite the challenging circumstances and ambiguity of last year, our family of world-class veterinary professionals showcased remarkable dedication and creativity as they continued to deliver the very best in veterinary care in completely new ways."
