Mars Veterinary Health brand, VCA Animal Hospitals, has opened its inaugural VCA Animal Hospitals Urgent Care location in the Mar Vista neighborhood in Los Angeles. The facility is designed to meet a need in veterinary care created by high rates of animal adoption during the pandemic and the resulting strain on veterinarians and veterinary facilities to meet the need for care.
“As the leading provider of comprehensive veterinary care, we take seriously our responsibility to help address the critical capacity issues facing our field – issues that challenge our ability to take care of every pet and client who needs help,” said Garrett Lewis, chief operating officer at VCA Animal Hospitals. “Our hospital teams are working harder than ever to see more pets, and we're developing new ways to deliver care to pets quickly. The launch of VCA Animal Hospitals Urgent Care is historic for VCA – this is the first time we've built a new line of hospitals from the ground up. Urgent Care has the potential to create a better experience for our associates, our clients and pets through purposeful design and new uses of technology.”
VCA urgent care locations are intended to care for pets who need same-day care in a non-emergency situation. Everyday care should still be managed by a regular veterinary care center. The facility also offers teletriage available at any hour to assess a pet and suggest whether urgent care can manage the health issue or if the pet should receive emergency care.
Brendan Lynch, senior vice president for urgent care and innovation at VCA Animal Hospitals, said the company's urgent care hospitals are designed to be calming, welcoming environments. "We have infused our decades of medical expertise into a new, seamless digital and in-hospital experience," he said.
