Large pet wellness firm, Petco Health and Wellness Company, Inc., has embarked on a test concept combination pet and farm animal store. The concept will be tested in rural areas and small towns, with the inaugural location in Floresville, Texas.
Additional Neighborhood Farm & Pet Supply facilities are expected to open in 2022 and provide products at a lower cost due to different digital fulfillment methods. Products at the facility are expected to include companion animals, wash areas for pets, vaccination and grooming, and a curated offering of farm and feed items. Products will be available for pickup at the curbside and pick up in-store after purchasing online.
The concept grew out of trends toward population shifts from metropolitan areas to rural areas or small towns. Petco aims to address the estimated $7 billion market in these areas. Stores will also host events and become connected with the local community.
"These are rapidly-growing markets where pet parents are looking for an experienced, pet-dedicated partner like Petco to help them care for the health and wellness of their animals," said Ron Coughlin, chief executive officer at Petco. "This is an exciting opportunity for us to serve more pets by dramatically expanding local access to healthy pet products and services."
The Neighborhood Farm & Pet Supply pet care centers will be stand-alone buildings situated centrally in rural areas and small towns. Through the company’s omnichannel supply system, products are accessible for pets and, cows, goats, horses, pigs, sheep, and others.
