Biotech company, Dalan Animal Health, Inc., has moved its headquarters to Athens, Georgia to take advantage of the area’s attributes. The company anticipates creating new jobs at the location across the next few years.
“Athens is the ideal location to build an innovative biotechnology company focused on sustainable agriculture,” said Dr. Annette Kleiser, chief executive officer at Dalan Animal Health. “We're excited to be a part of this community and take advantage of its many benefits to achieve significant and sustained growth.” Kleiser has two decades of experience in corporate strategy, startups, business development, and working with universities on translating technology to products.
Moving to the area puts the facility at the University of Georgia’s “Innovation Hub” and continues the company’s collaborations with the school. Currently, Dalan is working with the school to create a student and alumni talent pipeline. Dalan also works with UGA profeoors, Dr. Keith Delaplane who is director of the honeybee program in the College of Agricultural and Environmental Sciences, and Dr. Jörg Mayer at the College of Veterinary Medicine.
Dalan’s focus is the disease prevention in populations of beneficial insects in order to increase the yield of global pollinated crops. The company’s initial product was vaccine for honeybees against the disease, American Foulbrood. The company is also focused on mealworm, grasshopper, and shrimp populations.
