Madrid takes over from Tokyo in the organization of the World Congress of Buiatrics

Spain will be the host country for this biannual meeting with global repercussions after it was held in the Japanese capital in 2018 and its absence in 2020 due to the pandemic.

Over five days, a thousand interventions will be given between communications and conferences by renowned international experts in the sector.

If Madrid will host more than 2,000 international delegates, clinical veterinarians for cattle, sheep, and camelids, researchers, advisors in production medicine, professionals related to companies and associations, and students of Veterinary Medicine and Animal Sciences.

The National Association of Specialists in Bovine Medicine of Spain (Anembe), which brings together 1,400 veterinary specialists in cattle, is in charge of organizing the 31st World Buiatrics Congress (WBC) by a delegation of the Association World Association of Buiatrics (WAB), made up of 53 professional associations from around the world, with more than 50,000 associates who carry out their activity in the field of veterinary medicine specializing in production ruminants.

From September 4 to 8, the Ifema Municipal Conference Center in Madrid will bring together the world's leading specialists in buiatrics. Throughout the more than 1,000 interventions, topics related to the work of ruminant veterinarians will be discussed, and the latest news and scientific research at an international level will be announced.

In the words of Joaquín Ranz, president of Anembe: “From the organizing committee, we have wanted to impregnate the WBC with the style that our association has been bringing to its congresses in recent years and some innovative experiences such as the last one held in Seville, which was the largest ever made."

For this reason, in addition to a complete scientific program with twenty-five topics on different specialties of bovine, ovine, camelid, and alpaca veterinary medicine, and the best speakers of the moment on each of the main issues, round tables have been organized for each day with the four best oral presentations and with the two main speakers, where you can interact with them on the most relevant aspects of each of their presentations.

At the end of each scientific day, the section called "Vip Presentation" will be held, open to society in general, which can be attended by any person with prior registration. It will address current issues related to the work of the farm veterinarian, such as the importance of complete and balanced nutrition in people, the reduction of methane emissions through productive efficiency, the importance of livestock to avoid rural depopulation, and the cleaning of the mountains to avoid the forest fires that we are suffering.

These presentations will feature the presence of such media figures as the American veterinarian Dr. Jan Pol, star of the number 1 series broadcast by National Geographic Wild, The Incredible Dr. Pol; with Odile Rodríguez, biologist and science communicator, daughter of the naturalist Félix Rodríguez de la Fuente (creator of the legendary series El Hombre y la Tierra) or with the philosopher and writer Fernando Savater.

The theoretical part will be complemented with the most practical topics, with seminars and workshops developed by the main speakers; In addition, the sponsoring companies will also have their own space with their own high-level seminars.

During the Congress, a series of prizes will be awarded, among which the Ruminant Welfare Achievement Award stands out, endowed with 10,000 euros, with which the best work in this area will be recognized. This award presents as a novelty that, in addition to the classic concept of the absence of pain, the behavior and emotions of the animal will be taken into account. Likewise, another series of prizes and scholarships will be awarded to young veterinarians and veterinary students, with an endowment of 23,300 euros.

Lastly, the social program will offer a very attractive agenda for all the foreign attendees, which includes a visit to a bull-breeding farm, a tour of Toledo and monumental Madrid, a gala dinner at the Palacio del Negralejo, and a final touch in the ring of the Plaza de Las Ventas with jam session and concert, as well as barbecues and drinks at a reduced price and open to everyone.

Before the last edition of the WBC, which took place in Tokyo in 2018, the last one held in Europe was held in Dublin in 2016, and the Mexican city of Cancun will be the one to take the reins in 2024.
