UK launches first code of good practice for rabbit welfare

The UK's All-Party Parliamentary Group for Animal Welfare (APGAW) has launched the first code of good practice for rabbit welfare on the occasion of Awareness Week on the rabbit that has been celebrated from June 28 to July 4. Represents the first code of good practice for a small animal. Even though rabbits are one of the most common pets in the UK, only larger animals such as dogs, cats and horses have legal codes of good practice to protect and ensure their well-being.

Working with experts from the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA), Rabbit Welfare Association, People's Dispensary for Sick Animals (PDSA), Pet Food Manufacturers Association (PFMA), Pets at Home, Animal Welfare Foundation, and Pet Industry Federation ( PIF), the APGAW hopes that its code of good practice will prevent rabbits from suffering from welfare problems due to a general lack of understanding of their needs.

An infographic has also been made to accompany the code, called Rabbit Roundabout. The infographic clearly establishes the needs of domestic rabbits, helping the public understand what they need in areas such as company, diet, house size, and daily activities, among other things.

APGAW hopes that the Rabbit Roundabout infographic will be used in retail locations, rescue centers, veterinary centers, and other public areas to educate the public on proper rabbit welfare.
