Lauren Roberts named director of marketing and communications
Lorin Warnick, D.V.M., Ph.D. ’94, the Austin O. Hooey Dean of Veterinary Medicine, has appointed Lauren Roberts ’05 director of marketing and communications, effective Feb. 1. She succeeds Len Johnson, who retired Jan. 31 after more than a decade of service.
“It’s an honor to lead the marketing and communications efforts at the Veterinary College,” said Roberts. “I am deeply appreciative of Len’s foundational work in building the department, and of the creativity and dedication that the team brings to our mission.”
Roberts joined the college ten years ago as lead editor and science writer and has since shaped the College of Veterinary Medicine's storytelling and digital strategy. Some of her notable achievements include serving as editor of ‘Scopes magazine, launching the Cornell Veterinary Podcast series and the Cornell Veterinary Bulletin, overseeing the transition of key publications to fully digital formats, and envisioning “The Consult,” a multimedia feature showcasing alumni stories and conversations. She also led the creation of a dedicated webmaster role and strengthened the college’s web governance and user experience.
“Lauren’s accomplishments reflect not only her talent but also her ability to bring out the best in others,” said Warnick. “Her creativity and leadership have shaped how the college communicates with our many audiences.”
A Cornell biology alumna with a master’s in science journalism from Boston University, Roberts previously worked in news reporting, grant management and science writing — experience that continues to inform her strategic approach.
“I look forward to continuing the positive momentum the Marketing and Communications department has already built here at the college, and exploring new ways of sharing our community’s stories and expertise,” Roberts said.
Warnick also expressed deep appreciation for Johnson’s tenure as assistant dean for marketing and communications. “Len has significantly advanced our strategic communications efforts,” he said. “We are grateful for his leadership and wish him the very best in retirement.”
