WHAT: Helping dogs age better mentally and physically, reversing diabetes in cats, a provocative discussion on whether some millennials may love their pets too much and emergency medicine for penguins are among the topics to be presented at the 38th annual Veterinary Meeting & Expo (VMX). As advances in animal medicine parallel those of human medicine, veterinarians are learning new ways to diagnose and treat the most common illnesses and diseases, as well as rare and potentially fatal ones. Leading experts in veterinary medicine will present life-saving and changing advances that are extending and improving the quality of life for animals of all species -- cats, dogs, penguins, cows, snakes and more. Applying what they learn into their practices, veterinarians are able to provide the best care possible to animals and help them live longer, better quality lives.
WHY: Over the last year, Americans have looked to their pets for comfort and companionship more than ever. Nearly 13 million cats and dogs found new homes, putting pet adoptions at an all-time high. As the oncologist, cardiologist, ophthalmologist, dermatologist -- and just about every other ‘ologist’ for our animals, veterinarians need to stay abreast of many areas of animal health, across multiple species. Thousands of veterinarians attend VMX each year to stay current on the rapid changes and advances in animal medicine and ensure they are providing animals with the best, most up-to-date healthcare.
