Mars Petcare has committed $117 million to expanding its Fort Smith, Arkansas, facility to increase manufacturing capacity. The growth and investment comes on the heels of an estimated 23 million homes now having a pet. The market for wet pet food alone is up 18 percent compared to 2020, according to the company.
In order to keep up with rising demand, Mars Petcare will invest in its Fort Smith manufacturing site. An earlier $145 million investment was made in the site in 2021. The funds will be used to add two more production lines, build a new warehouse, improve equipment, and to add 140 new full-time jobs.
"Pet parents are at the center of everything we do, and at Mars Petcare, we're committed to answering their evolving needs as a trusted partner for pet parents," said Ikdeep Singh, regional president of Mars Pet Nutrition North America. "The role of pets in our lives has grown even stronger during the pandemic, and our latest investment in Fort Smith enables us to deepen our commitment to our Associates and the City of Fort Smith while also living our purpose: a better world for pets."
Manufacturing and pet care company, Mars Petcare, is a division of Mars, Incorporated.
