A poodle puppy whose emergency rescue was captured on NYPD body camera footage in May has recovered from his injuries and this week was reunited with the NYPD officers who rescued him and the ASPCA (American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and AMC (Schwarzman Animal Medical Center) medical teams that provided him with urgent, lifesaving care.
On May 16, NYPD officers rescued the approximately one-year-old mini poodle named Rocket from a park in Manhattan and rushed him to the ASPCA Animal Hospital in critical condition. When Rocket arrived at the ASPCA, he was bleeding from his mouth and had signs of a traumatic brain injury. He also had a fractured femur, was in shock, and his blood pressure and heart rate were very unstable. Due to the severity of his injuries, Rocket was quickly transferred to the Schwarzman Animal Medical Center, an ASPCA veterinary partner, so he could receive expert care from their critical care and neurology specialists. Once he was stable enough to undergo anesthesia, Rocket was transferred back to the ASPCA, where he underwent surgery for his fractured femur, followed by several weeks of physical therapy.
On Wednesday, Rocket was surrounded by the law enforcement and animal welfare personnel who saved his life, many of whom were seeing him for the first time since his rescue in May. Despite his severe injuries, Rocket fought for his life and showed incredible resilience. After receiving intensive medical care, Rocket is ready for the next chapter in his life and has an adopter lined up to take him home in the coming days.
