2023 Veterinary Scholars Symposium, Puerto Rico

Submit abstracts by July 14


Every year, with substantial support from Boehringer Ingelheim Animal Health, the American Association of Veterinary Medical Colleges (AAVMC) presents the Veterinary Scholars Symposium.

This meeting, to be held August 3-5 in Puerto Rico, highlights the essential role of scientific research in veterinary medicine and provides students in the Boehringer Ingelheim Veterinary Scholars Program with an opportunity to formally present their research in a professional environment.

Plenary session at the symposium include:

  • Emerging and Re-emerging Infectious Agents
  • Next Generation Medicine
  • Welfare of Animals in Biomedical Research
  • Translation and Application of Animal Microbiomes, and
  • Our Aging Pets.

Other sessions will cover Conservation Medicine and Wildlife Ecology, Comparative and Natural Models of Disease and The Human-Animal Bond. 

Mentorship panels will offer Academic Careers for Veterinarian Scientists and an overview of Public Health and Service Veterinarians.

During the highlight of the Veterinary Scholars Symposium, the poster session, students will be available to answer questions about their research and network with attendees. Students will be assigned a specific poster session in late July and will be required to be present next to their poster for either the first or the second half of their assigned poster session.
