Heart disease comes in many forms and can be difficult to detect, but at the upcoming Level Up: Canine Cardiology Summit, world-renowned veterinarians will demystify heart disease, from the common to the complex in order to aid practitioners in early diagnosis and treatment.
The virtual summit will take place on Dec. 6 at 7 p.m. ET.
The North American Veterinary Community (NAVC) is hosting this free virtual summit, sponsored by Boehringer Ingelheim, featuring sessions led by world-renowned veterinary experts in cardiology, Drs. Brian Scansen, DVM, DACVIM and Lance Visser, DVM, MS, DACVIM.
Attendees will learn about current research and recommendations around canine heart diseases. Reporters are invited to attend.
This program covers how to screen for heart disease during annual exams. It also reviews heart disease classification and staging, current diagnostic and therapeutic strategies based on type and stage of heart disease, and the need for additional diagnostics based on clinical situation.
A special presentation on the treatment of dogs with myxomatous mitral valve disease will be reviewed by Visser during the last portion of the summit.
Scansen said that heart disease is a common problem in dogs, but there are many treatment options available and early diagnosis can improve the odds of mitigating the impact before it is too late.
According to Boehringer Ingelheim, high-risk dog breeds include Cavalier King Charles, poodle, schnauzer, chihuahua, fox terrier and Jack Russell terrier.
The Level Up: Canine Cardiology Summit is hosted by NAVC’s year-round virtual education platform, VetFolio, and is part of regular learning events including summits, seminars and a live webinar series. Level Up is intended to help the veterinary community level up their skills so they’re ready for whatever challenges come their way.
Participating veterinarians will earn three hours of continuing education. For more information and to register, visit Level Up: Canine Cardiology.
