Dog and cat owners in North County now have expanded access to advanced veterinary dental care. Thrive Pet Healthcare announced the opening of Dentistry and Oral Surgery for Animals San Marcos, providing dental treatment, oral surgery and referral-based care for pets.
The new clinic is located at 1903 W. San Marcos Boulevard, Suite 150, in San Marcos. It shares space with Thrive Pet Healthcare partners Dermatology for Animals and Eye Care for Animals, creating a centralized location in San Marcos where pet families can access dermatology, ophthalmology and advanced dental care in one setting.
Pet ownership in California remains strong, with more than half of households owning at least one pet. About 57% of California households have a pet, including more than 500,000 dogs in the greater San Diego area.
Veterinary clinics focused on advanced dental procedures are limited in San Diego and Riverside counties, often leading to longer wait times for treatments such as tooth extractions, oral tumor care and periodontal disease management. Dentistry and Oral Surgery for Animals in San Marcos aims to help close this care gap.
“People in this community genuinely love their pets, so the challenge isn’t recognizing that something is wrong; it’s finding dental-focused care close to home,“ said Dr. Briana Mirchel, veterinarian at the new Dentistry and Oral Surgery for Animals in San Marcos. “Our goal is to make that care more accessible for this community.”
Dr. Mirchel has solid training in dentistry and shelter medicine. She earned her degree in biology and anthropology from SUNY Stony Brook, completed her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine at Western University of Health Sciences in Pomona, California, and finished a rotating internship in New Jersey. She served as head veterinarian at North Shore Animal League America and worked as a mobile vet for the ASPCA in New York City before returning to California to teach shelter medicine at Western University of Health Sciences.
Clinic Services
Dentistry and Oral Surgery for Animals offers a range of treatments for pets, including:
• Complex tooth extractions
• Oral mass evaluation and surgery
• Jaw fracture repair
• Root canal treatment
• Periodontal disease treatment
“Helping pets achieve optimal oral health brings a lot of satisfaction,” said Dr. Mirchel. “Seeing a pet eat with ease after treatment or finally being comfortable after years of dental pain makes this work rewarding every day.”
Referrals and Appointments
The clinic accepts referrals from veterinarians throughout Southern California and provides dentistry services directly to pet families in the region. Pet owners concerned about their pet’s dental health can contact the clinic directly or speak with their primary veterinarian about referral options. To schedule an appointment, call (442) 427-2128.
