Connected veterinary devices company, Mella Pet Care, has introduced its Mella Thermometer, which takes a dog's or cat's body temperature at the foreleg or hindleg. The device uses numerous sensors and machine learning through patient records, is currently being evaluated through clinical trials.
"Vets and parents have a real need for non-invasive diagnostic tools. This is the beginning of what we are doing to meet that need," said Anya Babbitt, CEO, and co-founder of Mella Pet Care. "Before Mella, the vet inserted an anal probe, hand-wrote the temperature, and entered it into a system. We achieved a breakthrough in hardware by creating the world's first accurate underarm thermometer, and also in software with innovative integrations into patient records."
The new device is also being brought to market through an investment. Pet Health Innovation Labs led a $1.2 million financing. Mella Pro will be released first and is for use by veterinary professionals. The home version, Mella Home, is expected later in the summer. At the end of the year, Mella anticipates launching its obesity device, Biggie Bodyfat Analyzer.
