Pet wellness company, Petco Health and Wellness Company Inc., has entered into an agreement to buy 50% of a stake in Thrive Pet Healthcare and its veterinary hospitals. Currently, Thrive manages 100 veterinary hospitals housed in Petco stores. The facilities are known under the THRIVE brand and are operating in 14 states across the country.
“We're thrilled to officially welcome this talented group of veterinary professionals to our Petco family,” said Dr. Whitney Miller, DVM, MBA, DACVPM, chief veterinarian at Petco. “Every day, they provide expert veterinary care to pets and pet parents in our Petco pet care centers. In return, all of us on Petco's leadership team are committed to a seamless transition, as well as fostering an environment where they can continue growing their practices and careers while performing the best medicine possible and supporting their own wellbeing.”
The prior joint venture that brought together Petco and THRIVE began in 2017. As part of the new agreement, Petco will extend an offer to join its network to more than 800 professionals in veterinary care. In addition, about 100 THRIVE veterinary hospital locations will transition to Vetco Total Care branding. The change will mean that pet owners will experience all care and wellness offerings under the single Petco brand.
"We are incredibly grateful for our team members' contributions to the health and wellbeing of the pet families we all serve," said Odis Pirtle, chief operating officer at Thrive Pet Healthcare. "With demand for high-quality pet care at an all-time high, we see continued growth ahead for Petco and Thrive as we both strive to meet the needs of pets and pet parents independently. Our commitment remains the same – creating a more connected and innovative ecosystem that will continue expanding accessibility to veterinary services and healthcare across primary, acute, and specialty care."
