The Pedigree Foundation and Pedigree’s Essential Support Dogs program will award a total of $100,000 in grants to 10 organizations and shelters across the country. The awardees were chosen based on their efforts to eradicate pet homelessness and keep pets with their families during difficult times.
Grant monies were given to groups that help to assist pet owners who have immediate need for boarding, fostering, pet food, or deposits for housing that allows pets. In addition, groups that help families who need help with pet medical expenses could receive funding.
“We know how much people have turned to their pets for unconditional love and support over the past few years and through the Pedigree brand's Essential Support Dogs program and its donation to support these grants, shelters across the country can continue to keep people and pets together through challenging times,” said Kimberly Wise, president of Pedigree Foundation. “We're inspired by the work shelters are doing to drive change in their communities and help deserving dogs find loving homes. Now more than ever, shelters need our support as they are at capacity and are unable to take more dogs under their care. We encourage people to adopt, foster, volunteer or donate to your local shelter to help continue to drive this change and end pet homelessness.”
Recipients of the grants included Arizona Humane Society, Berkeley Humane, Dallas Pets Alive!, Humane Indiana, Rockbridge Animal Alliance, Seattle Humane, and others. Pedigree Foundation will also pay an additional $2.5 million for financial assistance and food assistance that allows pets to stay with their families.
Pedigree Foundation is the independent 501(c)(3) non-profit organization portion of the Pedigree brand, which is owned by Mars Incorporated.
