WVC ‘Vet Differently’ 2024 Program Review


That is the theme of the Victus Group’s 96th WVC Annual Conference to be held at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, NV, from February 18 to 21, 2024. Participants will have access to more than 850 continuing education (CE) hours, including lectures, hands-on labs, and drop-in learning sessions, as well as unparalleled networking opportunities. 

Education program highlights

Attendees can meet all their CE requirements in one place through a wide variety of learning opportunities, including:

Learning sessions — Experts will speak on important topics that include:

  • Small animal — Anesthesia, behavior, dentistry, dermatology, gastroenterology, imaging, infectious disease, integrative medicine, nephrology, oncology, sports medicine, and rehabilitation therapy
  • Food animal —  Bison production, honey bee production, small ruminants, feedlot and stocker, nutrition, and reproduction
  • Equine — Alternative medicine, behavior, infectious disease, lameness, ophthalmology, preventive care, rehabilitation, reproduction, and vaccinations
  • Avians and exotics — Birds, pet pigs, reptiles, small mammals, wildlife, zoo animals
  • Practice management — Client communication, entrance and exit strategies, leadership, legal, marketing, wellness, and practice operations
  • Veterinary technician — Cardiology, dentistry, emergency and critical care, feline medicine, internal medicine, pain management, pediatrics, and teamwork

Hands on labs — For an additional fee, participants will be shuttled to the nearby Oquendo campus for hands-on training in topics that include:

  • Radiology and dental equipment maintenance for veterinary teams
  • Small ruminant ultrasound
  • Introduction to fracture management for the novice orthopedist
  • Spaying your dragon
  • Periodontal techniques lab
  • Fear Free—gentle control and handling
  • Introduction to small animal acupuncture

Learning lounges — Sponsors and exhibitors will provide bite-sized education sessions to introduce new products, procedures, and helpful tips to energize your practice. Options include:

  • Improving outcomes by considering health literacy
  • Canine cancer screening with Nu.Q Vet
  • Lateral fabellar suture stifle stabilization
  • Feline injection site sarcomas
  • Understanding feline OA pain

Workshops — For an additional fee, attendees can enroll in workshops that offer group activities and high instructor/student interactions. Available workshops include:

  • Physical rehabilitation for neurologic patients
  • Canine and feline problem behavior interactive case discussions
  • Nutrition calculations
  • Feeding tube maintenance and troubleshooting

Symposia — In symposia sessions, top industry partners will present the latest developments and cutting edge information on many topics, such as:

  • Raw diets
  • Fuzapadib sodium for pancreatitis
  • SARS-CoV-2 in mink, manatees, and mule deer
  • Canine genetic screening
  • Leveraging AI for enhanced companion animal care
  • Ophytrium to treat atopic dermatitis

Industry seminars — At industry breakfast and lunch seminars, attendees can network with peers and explore hot topics that include:

  • Diabetes masterclasses
  • Building emotional intelligence
  • Multimodal treatment plans to address feline stress
  • The evolution of preventing heartworm disease in the United States

New educational program additions

This year, the WVC offers ground-breaking new additions to the educational program, including:

Where Art Meets Science — These unique sessions blend creative painting sessions with anatomy, offering a fresh educational approach. 

Game-based learning — The Clinic’s On Fire is an interactive game-based workshop for the whole veterinary team that explores the various personnel challenges of veterinary clinics. 

3-D printing sessions — This two-part session delves into 3D printing and the technology’s applications in veterinary medicine. Attendees will apply 3D modeling principles to create their own .STL file that will allow them to produce a 3D print for their practice. 

Under the microscope — These hands-on workshops blend in-depth lectures with detailed microscope analysis. Sessions include:

  • Ticks: Know Your Enemy
  • Behind the Floppy Ear: Explore Common Findings of Ear Cytology
  • Vaccine Mastery: Tips and Tricks For Veterinary Technicians
  • What’s in this Fecal: Parasites, Pollen, or Particulates?

One Health learning track — These One Health CE sessions have significance for veterinarians and human healthcare professionals. Attendees can receive continuing medical education (CME) credits at sessions that will include:

  • Sporotrichosis
  • Carbapenem-Resistant Organisms
  • One Health and the COVID-19 Pandemic
  • Resistant Dermatophytoses

Entertainment

WVC Annual Conference attendees can unwind at some amazing entertainment opportunities:

“O” by Cirque Du Soleil — Participants can head to the Bellagio Resort & Casino to watch this impressive performance that weaves an aquatic tapestry of artistry, surrealism, and theatrical romance. The international cast of world class acrobats, synchronized swimmers, divers, and characters interact with water in varied ways to create a breathtaking experience. Hill’s Pet Nutrition is sponsoring this event.

Neon Wonderland — The 2024 Veterinary Technician reception will be held at StarBase, a 10-minute shuttle ride from the Las Vegas strip. Attendees will enjoy dancing, drinks, and networking in a neon wonderland. Zoetis is sponsoring this event. 

WVC Concert — A soon to be announced musical guest will close out the conference on the last night in the Mandalay Bay Ballroom. Boehringer Ingelheim is sponsoring this event.
