Nonprofit, Florida Animal Friend, has provided $617,645 in grants to a myriad of low- or no-cost neuter and spaying through the state. Each of the recipients, which includes humane societies, SPCAs, animal services and animal control organizations, will receive $25,000.
The grant program is held each spring and is open to nonprofits and municipal groups which submit applications. Entries are evaluated by a grant committee based on the value of reducing the targeted population, history of success, and the group’s capacity to grow the number of surgeries.
Funding for the program is garnered through specialty license plates, which are sold through the state’s department of motor vehicles.
