Animal microbiome market to soar to above $12B

The international market for animal microbiomes is forecast to attain a $12.4 billion value by 2030, according to a report by market analysis company, Insight Ace Analytic Pvt. Ltd. The market was priced at $5.75 billion in 2021. The uptick across the forecast period of 2022 to 2030 would amount to a CAGR of 9.0%.

An expected continuous rate of growth in the market is projected based on the recent need to control disease in both the companion animal and livestock markets. This is achieved through identification, treatment, and minimizing the spread of disease. Additionally, supplements are increasingly being turned into an effort aid in building immunological health in animals. This trend is expected to dovetail with pet owners’ increasing interest in safe, natural alternatives in pet nutrition.

Further, the market’s growth is forecast based on recent technological improvements in the evaluation of the animal microbiome. This includes the ability to sequence DNA of the microbiome and analysis of bioinformatics.

Specific to the livestock portion of the microbiome market, the microbiome is being viewed as a component in maintaining a healthy, sustainable, and productive population. For instance, in poultry, the immune system is managed largely by the gut which harbors 70% of the animal’s immune cells, according to the report.

At the same time, in the companion animal population is affected by a high number of pets that are obese, potentially triggering other health issues like respiratory difficulty, arthritis, increased blood pressure as well as weakened immune response. Microbiome models can be used to predict and test for obesity markers.
