Illinois-based Chicago Exotics Animal Hospital has become the first veterinary practice to begin working with a new device, the VetCAT IQ which can image tissue and bone of exotic animals and birds. The Chicago facility treats only exotic animals.
"With the addition of the VetCAT IQ at our clinic, we will help improve the lives of our most delicate creatures and significantly improve our ability to properly diagnose and treat every animal, not just the dog and cat community," says Susan Horton, DVM, owner of Chicago Exotics. "The compactness of the VetCAT IQ is also a bonus. I was able to easily accommodate it into the floorplan of my imaging room."
Made by Xoran Technologies, which specializes in low-dose radiation cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) scanning technology, the device system is mobile and offers 3-D CT through CBCT. The imaging system also includes software to assist in diagnosis and managing treatment planning.
The device is particularly useful for veterinarians seeking to image pet dentistry, sinuses, brain, and eyes, according to the company. Installation of the device at Chicago Exotics is part of Xoran’s efforts to work in collaboration with veterinary clinics to advance imaging technology so that it is on par with capabilities for human patients.
